Paolo Nicola Barbieri

Ph.D. student at the Department of Economics, University of Bologna.

Research Fields

Primary field: Health Economics, Applied Economics, Social and Network Economics.

Secondary field: Behavioral and Experimental Economics.
My main area of interest is individual decision-making in health economics, both theoretically and empirically.

My research mainly focuses on the causes and consequences of unhealthy behaviors (especially related to
obesity). My studies explore the importance of individual specific and environmental factors in influencing
individual’s health behaviors. For example, I study how social norms affects individuals’ health concern and
their probability of being obese. I am also interested in behavioral and experimental economics, especially
in the effect that lotteries and financial incentives have on reducing on free-riding in the fruition of a public
