NHESG - Cancelled!


University of Gothenburg and the Centre for Health Economics at University of Gothenburg (CHEGU) will host the 41st Nordic Health Economists’ Study Group (NHESG) meeting. The conference will be held at Wallenberg Conference Centre in Gothenburg 12th-14th of August 2020.

The meeting aims to bring together researchers who are working in the area of health economics and to further the continuous development of health economics as a subdiscipline of economics. Papers on all topics within health economics are welcome. Submitted papers representing various stages of the research process are expected. The conference language is English. The usual NHESG procedural rules will apply, meaning 40 minutes are allotted to each paper, and a discussant will summarize and discuss the paper.

Student paper competition

In order to participate in the student paper competition, please send your paper to kristian.bolin@economics.gu.se no later than 1st of April.

The award is given annually to a student who is enrolled in a PhD program at a university, or a young researcher who works with a research institute. The PhD student should still be enrolled when the paper is submitted, while a young researcher should have obtained his or her Master's degree (or equivalent) less than 5 years before this date. If multiple authors, the scientific committee can ask for a coauthor statement. The topic of the paper should be relevant in the Nordic setting. The PhD student or young researcher must attend the annual NHESG meeting.

Keynote speakers

Titus Galama, Ph.D., MBA, is a Senior Economist at the University of Southern California (USC) Dornsife Center for Economic and Social Research (CESR), and Director of the CESR Center for the Study of Health Inequality (CSHI), Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. Titus Galama is an award-winning astrophysicist who turned to business/management then policy analysis and economics. Titus joined the RAND Corporation in 2006 and USC’s CESR in 2013. In these positions his focus has been on understanding the substantial disparities in health by socioeconomic status, utilizing economic principles. To this end he has developed structural theoretical models of health and retirement and of the formation of disparities in health between socioeconomic status groups.

Petter Lundborg is a Professor at Lund University at the Department of Economics and Centre for Economic Demography. Petter Lundborg’s research is mainly empirical and is characterized by meticulous empirical work with high-quality microdata which is used to answer relevant questions within the field and where issues regarding causality have a central role. Petter Lundborg’s research is mostly conducted in the field of health economics and labor economics and has covered topics such as health and labour market outcomes, education, early life conditions, and household finance.
